Especially, if you’re a new startup SEO company – this checklist is something you need to follow religiously. One of the biggest problems with the SEO industry is simply this: overpromise and underdeliver. There can be two reasons for this, 1. Blatant lying, and 2. Ignorance due to lack of analysis.
Perhaps some combination of the two even?
After the recent algorithm updates, especially with the frequency of the algorithm updates, it’s become apparent that every website is a suspect of being hit by a penalty to some extent. Remember, SEO providers, there are two algorithms you have to take into account – first, you have to take into account Panda – which is geared towards on-site optimization purposes and manages that end of the spectrum. The second algorithm you have to be constantly thinking about is Penguin – which handles off-site optimization issues. Then, there’s a third penalty you have to worry about, the unnatural links manual penalty, which could be affecting numerous companies.
When approaching a potential client, if you’re not digging into all 3 of these issues, you’re simply misleading yourself, and will be promising things you possibly can’t deliver due to these penalties. In addition, and most importantly, you will look like an idiot because after the first month you’ll see you aren’t getting results, and you’ll wonder why.
When you finally do the analysis, you’ll realize what a horrible mistake you made, and how your business relationship with the client is about to change 180 degrees.
Don’t risk your reputation for a quick buck, do a thorough analysis and be honest with your client. They’ll appreciate it, and even if they don’t call you today – they will certainly keep you in mind tomorrow. Keeping your integrity is the best thing you can do for yourself, as an SEO provider, and for your client.
